Reportedly, it inspired Whoopi Goldberg to get into acting (and she later went on to play the bartender Guinan on Star Trek: The Next Generation). Goldberg is reported to have called out to her mother: “Mama, there’s a Coloured woman on the television, and she ain’t no maid!” I hope they met; I’m sure they have.
