I’d need to have money to find out.
Not :(
I tend to spend all the money I have on my hand on whatever is the hyperfixation at the moment.
At least I have some savings tucked away that I leave be
I have a separate debit card that I give myself a monthly “fun money” allowance. Anything from eating out to hobby purchases must go there, and when its gone, tough shit. I have to wait until the 1st to make the purchase. It’s really trained me to think hard about purchases, be more frugal, and less impulsive.
How much do you allocate for fun money?
After bills and expenses, I do about 25% of what remains for fun money and 75% into various savings.
I’m better now than I was in my twenties. I wouldn’t say I’m good at it though. I do well enough to pay my bills and tuck a little away into savings.
Absolutely horribly, especially considering I don’t have a job
Awful
Generally very good. It’s been a little harder with a house, 2 dogs, a kid, and a few medical expenses (husband broke his foot twice in 5 years) but I’ve managed to have $15,000 in an emergency fund for us, save short-term for vacations and bigger Christmas purchases for the house, and still get to do/have most of the things that we want. No credit card debt (just house, cars, and student loans). We are also both maxing out our retirements (at least maxing out what our companies will match). I work as a teacher so my salary isn’t great, and while my husband makes more it’s not significantly more.
I am not good with money, but thankfully my wife is very thrifty so it balances out.
When we first met I’d managed to get completely out of debt, but didn’t have any money in my account at the end of the month. Meanwhile my wife had scrimped and saved everything but hadn’t done anything that cost money for years.
Together we saved very well, and also went and had some really good experiences. Now, after 10 years we have our own modest place, zero debt, and enough in the bank that I need to look at investing it (as ethically as possible) so it doesn’t loose it’s value.
Bad. Real bad.
