why don’t you post your open message on the threadiverse since you have an account already?

I’m with you. This clearly isn’t a technology story.
It seems to be near impossible for their to be a true technology news forum because people keep spamming non-technology stories and too many people seem to like it that way.
I’ve heard you can ask those people, “if you have nothing to hide would you be OK with a camera in your shower? Recording you have sex?”
I like the saying that privacy is like cancer. Just because you don’t have it doesn’t mean its not vitally important to solve for society as a whole.
It’s by design. If 80 to 90% or more of people blindly agree to share their contacts and email then the rest of use are caught up in it every time we communicate with them.
You cannot both participate in mainstream social networks and communications platforms and have any real privacy.

I buy retro tech items on ebay here in the eu. The two times I filed for refunds ebay got my money back within a week. All other sales have been very smooth. Still plenty of good sellers to shop from.

If you like running a Linux Mint workstation, its mostly the same but built on Debian instead of Ubuntu. It came from their goal of making a version of Mint that doesn’t have any dependencies on Ubuntu.

LMDE comes to mind

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Nearly all are run by companies making money by recording as much of your data as possible.
A commercial cloud app could be entirely private but then the company would not be able to take your data.
Alaska and Hawaii are not parts of Europe

They had donuts and ice cream bars at my local dispensary!

I can imagine even an hour car ride would have seemed much more daunting
Not at all. I started driving at the end of the 1980s. My grandfather taught me. He also taught me how do the basic car maintenance, like changing a tire and checking/refilling the fluids. In my trunk was always the spare tire+jack, a bottle of oil, a bottle of water, a toolkit, and a small empty gas can. I never needed them except the spare tire once. I never worried about getting roadside assistance.
Me and the girl I was dating at the time used to just pick a direction and drive for an hour to see what we’d find. It was one of the best ways to get some privacy when you both live with your parents!
That’s really not the case. Most tap water and bottled water have some salt and the amount varies widely by brand/location.
