  • I remember typing random combinations of letters and numbers into the hex color field on my marquee span text on my Geocities site when i was a kid and marveling at how it always seemed to yield a different result.

Anyway, as an edgelord 8 year old with unsupervised access to the internet I discovered that my hexcode is #DEATH or some shit like that, I honestly don’t remember what it was but I was fascinated with the color it produced at the time.

I kinda feel the same way about Diablo-style games. I’m only ever encouraged to play by people who have put so much time into it that they can’t appreciate the gameplay loops or the story anymore and only want to rush to max level and do the same loot runs over and over again.

If I play by myself, I can kind of see the appeal, but I’m playing “sub-optimally” and wasting a bunch of time. Eventually, I will have to fall in and keep up or just be satisfied playing alone.

Is it weird that I kind of appreciate the design language of the Volkswagen in that picture? Moreso than the Audi, at least.

Yeah, that form factor is definitely old people coded at this point, and has always been for as long as I can remember, but I find something quite charming about it. I can’t quite explain it. It’s not nostalgia, because I never owned a car like that before, but I do remember seeing them on the road 30+ years ago and thinking to myself “that’s an old car!”.

I wonder if design trends ever loop back around for cars the same way that it does for fashion? Perhaps not, as I’m sure the industry has purposefully moved away from cars that look like that due to improved safety features or enhanced auto regulations, but if I were interested in buying a car for it’s unique or appealing shape alone, then I would much rather be driving around an old boxy VW Golf than ever be caught dead in a Cybertruck.

  • It’s amusing that they use de-nazification as the example of what they want, as the de-nazification of Germany was a spectacular failure. Mostly because all of the most prominent Nazis who were still useful to us (rocket scientists) were essentially pardoned and others fled to South America after the war. But also because the criteria for “who is a member of the Nazi party” necessarily had to become more and more relaxed as time went on to the point where they no longer seemed to care how deep one’s convictions to Nazi ideology were, since they needed civilians back to work rebuilding Europe.
