2·6 days agoThat’s super cheap. Does that include distribution charges?
Our utility has had a few plans geared at auto, including a second meter that they could remotely disable if necessary, but their current plans are nowhere near as good.
Here’s their best time of use plan if you can push most of your use into the evenings:

1·12 days ago100 MILLION troman sounds like a lot, but it turns out it’s just 730 bucks.
Using pure currency conversion, sure.
The average annual income of an urban household was approximately 3.432 billion rials
Sauce. Evidently there’s a factor of 10 difference between these two denominations, so you’re talking about 1/3 of the average household’s income. For Muricans, that’s around $27k.
You’re not wrong, but the whole thing is also a bit of a house of cards. If the buyers don’t have the money the contract won’t be fulfillable.
We have a data center planned not too far from my house. It was approved by the city council last December despite a lot of public skepticism. The developers aren’t moving because they don’t have the money. They’re waiting to have someone on contract to lease capacity from them before taking out a loan. In the best case that will simply never happen.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Forget what you read online: 94% of EV drivers won't go back to gas
2·1 month agoAlso same. I can even afford an older used Miata if I squint. But man, where would I put the thing? We’ve fortunate enough to have two cars, but storing a third would be very awkward. The current EV charger location means my car must be parked in the garage. My wife will not be bumped out and shuffling cars seems like a massive PITA.
I also live in SE MI and our roads are firmly grid oriented. I moved here daily driving a 96 Miata and got very little joy out of driving it here.
Out of curiosity when did you get out? We have kids in elementary school and they were issued Chromebooks. Our older one is expected to bring it to/from school daily.
I hate the device. Chromebooks kneecap computer literacy. This kid also has a (used) Thinkpad, but greatly prefer the Chromebook because it’s not locked down. It has no time limits, can access websites like YouTube with zero content filter, etc. It’s on a VPN so I can’t easily block sites like I can on everything else, but at least I can limit Internet access time to make it less appealing to use. The list goes on.
Another source of annoyance are the apps teachers use to communicate. Teachers are allowed to choose between two and one of the apps paywalls functionality behind a subscription.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Motorola's GrapheneOS phones will launch in 2027 priced higher than Pixels
1·2 months agoI really liked my 3a. My wife had a 6a. I cringe when I think about either of us needing to replace what we have.
I don’t know that I have very specific recommendations right now :(
I do actually own a pair of whitins. They’re pretty cheap on Amazon and have been holding up fairly well, but I’ve only had them 6 months. They’re also very comfortable for my feet.
The only whiff of caution I would offer is that a lot of shoe makers in the barefoot arena tend to be newer companies and seem to be working out kinks. For example, I like the look of Groundies, but the two pairs I had both had the same sole and it cracked after a year of everyday use. The uppers were still holding up great.
Barefoot shoes as a general cut/style are starting to become a lot more mainstream, so I wouldn’t worry about the shape.
All my shoes, and my medium warmth pair of boots, are this style now and my feet feel great. As a bonus, a lot of their soles are minimalist too, with no foam layer, so they last a decent amount of time. Granted, you can’t really resole sneakers.
I will have to give these boots a look.
Rando pair of shoes in this genre:

Bill is currently 72. Independence day came out 30 years ago, so he was 42 in the fim. I would be all for someone that age being president, but man…
Roosevelt was 42 when he became president, but he wasn’t elected when he became president. He’s the youngest person to be president so far.
Kennedy was 43 when he was elected.
Clinton and Ulysses S. Grant were both 46.
Obama and Grover Cleveland were both 47.
Franklin Price was 48.
James Garfield and James Polk were both 49.
Everyone else was 50+. Obama, Clinton, and Kennedy were the only people under 50 who were elected president in the last 100 years.

Older trucks, sure. I could lift stuff over the sides of my buddies S10 and place them on the bed while standing on the ground. I can’t do that with a modern Colorado, let alone a 1500 :(
I am not in the market for a stuff hauler, but a euro van seems like it would be a ton more practical.
“Icky” loads like poop or towing? I totally get a truck here but I still contend modern beds are too high.
This is how an entire generation escaped having to carry floppy disks to school
I have not played BL4, but I recently replayed 1-3. 2 is by far the best IMO, but man does leveling break midway through the game if you’re doing side quests and/or DLC. You wind up super overpowered.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What dead car brand would you want to bring back and why?
3·5 months agoIn the OG Grand Turismo I somehow wound up with a red GTO. I was able to upgrade the thing to something silly like 940 horsepower. It was… great.
In very broad brushes, cars seem to be getting both more boring and higher performance. The Evo, Celica, Camaro (again), Sky/Solstice, S2000, MR2, STI (the new one doesn’t really count), etc are all gone. On the other hand, most budget EVs will give the performance cars of yesterday year a good run for their money.

Is this still the case? It seems like I’m constantly hearing about there being a teacher shortage. I tried Google, but the Internet is basically broken right now.
