Not necessarily not interacting with others just…time without other obligations. Time which is exclusively mine to do with what I want. Not working. Chores done (or at least the ones that need doing). Kids in bed. Finished for the day.

Whether that’s alone or with a partner or with friends doesn’t matter. What matters is, I’m in charge of the time, and anybody around me is on my wavelength.

I’m an introvert and a homebody, tho, so most of the time it’s gaming, doom-scrolling, wiki-diving, or shit-posting. As long as it brings me joy (so trying less of the doom-scrolling…).

So really I’ve just shifted what I’m doing with that time, and where that time is. Now I’m reading in bed with my partner. She does the same. Not that I don’t like sitting quietly with her (believe me, I love it), but sometimes I just want to sit quietly without her, or anyone or anything in particular…ya know?

Ok, this isn’t really my community, but y’all got good memes and you hit my all constantly.

I never understood the value of good sleep. I’d just get maybe 5-6 hours before my kids would jump into bed and wake me up and then my day starts.

Had a sleep study done and turns out I wasn’t getting any deep sleep (in addition to apnea)

Like, no wonder I feel so foggy and forgetful. Wicked cranky and short-tempered. Barely recovered from sciatica flareup after 4 months.

I thought I was getting old (I’m only 41 but still…). I thought being tired was just part of having kids.

And sure that’s a part of it, but only a small part.

Started going to bed earlier. Much earlier. Like 9 or 10 instead of 12 or 1. Phone off. Reading Kindle. About an hour in and I’m ready to pass out. Head and legs propped up (look up “zero gravity sleep position”…game changer). Solid night sleep.

Stopped smoking cannabis right before/in bed. You know cannabis can inhibit REM sleep? Easier to fall asleep, sure, but not nearly as restorative.

I feel sooooooo much better. I’m dreaming again!

Anyways, just wanted to share. Don’t discount the importance of a good night sleep. Having an hour or two to yourself is great but it’s not worth it. Not every night.

  • Revolving debt is a trap. Don’t get caught in it.

It sucks that there’s very little alternative option for some people. Sometimes you need to bite the bullet and take on debt. And then you have to repay the debt in addition to daily life, which can easily lead to more debt, and so on and so on indebtfinitely.

Not talking about free debt. I’m big on getting free money when inflation is so high…something I need now, or even want now (and can afford), and 0% offer for same price? Fuck yeah take the 0%. $200 now is worth like $210 within a year. I’d much rather pay $17/mo for a year than pay an extra $10 for the same item next year.

Assuming of course, you can and do pay it on time each month. Don’t want to get hit with the deferred interest or you’re worse off than you would’ve started.

They are great for their initial intent: keeping “undesirable” people out of the neighborhood, or making life extremely difficult for them to stay.

HOAs were a replacement for redlining. They’re great for practicing good ol’ American suburban racism.
