Disrespecting other people’s time is a shitty cultural trait. And I say that as someone from a country where everyone leaves home at the time they should be arriving.

That’s why you always plant it next to strawberries and blackberries.
Now we go to a text transformer that poops spaghetti code by the bucket.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•I was contacted by a recruiter for a role I am already occupying at the same company.English
11·21 days agoDepends on the size of the company. If a company has 3000 employees in a job family, and 1% leave per year (due to retirement, personal life reasons, etc.), they need to hire more than a person every single working day just to keep the head count.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•‘You’re not one of us, are you?’: How a Ukrainian soldier survived two weeks in a Russian dugoutEnglish
34·21 days agoWhy would a propaganda piece present an enemy soldier as a complex, conflicted, and damaged person instead of outright evil? Or tell how Ukrainian soldiers almost killed one of their own by mistake?

16·21 days agoBecause Uber saying the drivers are self employed is obviously a lie? If drivers were really their own bosses and Uber was just the middle man, they would be the ones setting the rates they are charging, and Uber would then pass that to the users.

1·24 days agoYou can launch Firefox directly with one profile. You can also have a .desktop per profile. The problem is that the DE is probably going to group the windows together in the taskbar.
Do they claim that though? Neo-liberal economists often adopt praxeology openly, and the other ones are mostly deluding themselves.

World News@quokk.au•UAE Warns US It Could Sell Oil in Chinese Yuan if War Drains Dollar Supplies, Triggering Biggest Threat to the Petrodollar Since the 1970sEnglish
2·1 month agoDon’t see how. If the US loses the exorbitant privilege the interest rates and inflation will go through the roof at the same time, and the government will not be able to keep up with the unlimited spending, so social services will go down the drain. The American middle and lower classes are going to take the brunt of it, and it’s not going to be pretty.

Fun fact: that ad used a pirated font. There are also conflicting reports about it using a pirated song, but that was probably another anti-piracy ad.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Don't you understand?English
1·2 months agoUnironically this. In a related note, most people confuse “tidy”, which is about aesthetics, with “organised” that is about efficiency. That’s why my long term storage is extremely tidy, and my short term storage (mostly my desk, and a small table next to it) looks like a modern art installation.

2·2 months agoYes, and so can most experienced developers. In fact unmaintainable human-written code is more often caused by organisational dysfunctions than by lack of individual competence.

That works for an informal dinner between friends, it doesn’t work for something where everyone needs to be present. There’s nothing that pisses me off more than having something important to do, and having people arrive randomly on a 40 minute span after the scheduled time.
