It’s a bit more complex than that. But for streaming at 120hz from a PC to the Frame it’s barely over an hour in “quality mode”. They do have a “playtime mode”, but it’s like 72hz with worse visuals, so not really worth using.

But that’s one more cable you have to route through your shirt (which annoys me sensation wise). They always skimp out on batteries.
Nah, I’ve never had a VR headset at home, so when it comes to actually playing games I’m a newbie. Though I heard the only really ‘good’ VR game is Half Life Alyx. Plenty of warnings that if you play that one first, all the other games will feel like crap :-/
Also curious about Blade and Sorcery.
I actually have a horror game on Steam developed for the Valve Index (we had several 10 years ago in university). Never was impressed enough back then to actually purchase one for myself (so I also didn’t have much playtime). Bad display quality, especially for texts, uncomfortable, stumbling over the cable, …
That’s why I was really looking forward to the Steam Frame for a year now. Barely over an hour of battery life dampened my enthusiasm already :-/
I did get a notification for Steam… that I’m on the waiting list, yay :(
Overall it’s a tiny bit underwhelming (not even talking about the price) when you look at all the mixed reviews of the most popular VR titles. I still want to mess around with it, but I guess now I just wait.

Yesterday was indie Sunday, again tons of views, but less interaction than Lemmy:

47·29 days agoIt’s even worse: Popular subreddits like /r/games have a “at most 10% self promotion” rule, so 10% of your posts can be self-promotion. So I thought: Hey, my account is 14 years old or so, over 100k karma, I’ll make a post about my game.
Got instantly taken down, they counted every single patch note post in my own subreddit to the rule. And then I noticed whenever I posted the direct iOS App Store link my post instantly got filtered, even in my own subreddit! The mods heavily pushed me towards buying Reddit ads.

Reddit is simply full with bots, upvotes mean nothing.

1·2 months agoIt’s a fine balance between providing information and overexplaining. Like I don’t want to hand-hold the player for several minutes ^^’ Or give them a wall of text to read.
What do you mean “find it again”? The tutorial you can bring up with the ?-button on the top right, everywhere there is one, even in minigames. Or do you mean you saw a resource on the map earlier and want to find it again? Resources do go away over time and new ones pop up (though anything close to you shouldn’t go away, so something that is right next to you should never just vanish).

1·2 months agoThe edge markers do show how far away you are from a resource. Like below 25m, 50m, 75m and so on.
But I had to remove a full on tracking UI as resources are spread evenly across the world. Pokemon Go curates spots only near streets (and trains drones on the data, lol).
With too much tracking going on I could get into legal trouble if some kid decides to break into private property or runs on some train tracks…

1·2 months agoHave you never played Pokemon Go before? It’s a GPS game, the entire game world is mapped to the real world. If you walk North in the real world you walk North in the game.
The app only runs when it’s open, but you could open it, see there’s nothing there, close it, walk 100 meters in a direction, then open it again. Or keep it open and it vibrates your phone if something new pops up.
Best thing you can do is download the street map in the game, then just go for a walk and see what you find :)
The tutorial should have spawned those two resources and an NPC for you, but maybe it got messed up? If you haven’t played yet, you can reset your game storage and try again. 3 things should be visible on the map for you on the first start.

1·2 months agoWhen you first start the game a tutorial should pop up?
Looks like this (without the debug joystick):

You pick up ingredients, brew potions and sell them to merchants. It’s like Pokemon Go, you walk in the real world, you move in the game. For orientation you can download your local street map (top left button), if you want. The square resources are minigames (5 different ones at the moment), some events are also on the map you can find.
No “goal”, get money, reputation, buy buildings, buy decorations for your neighborhood, buy skins, pets, buffs, earn achievements, …

7·2 months agoIt’s available on Aurora and as a simple APK download :)
F-Droid is not possible for now, as the game has to be fully open source for it. Maybe in the future when I decide the game is done, but for now it’s not planned.

7·2 months agoI’m using Godot, which does not include GPS support for Linux exports, sorry. I’d have to write a custom GPS backend for gpsd and even that sounds finicky. GPS has already been a headache on the devices I do support :-/
