Seven Florida Democratic members of Congress said they were deceived and are demanding answers from Gov. Ron DeSantis about the use of small metal cages at the now-closed immigration detention center dubbed Alligator Alcatraz.
In a letter Tuesday addressed to DeSantis, the lawmakers requested that the state provide a list of all records and evidence related to the controversial detention center and asked whether Attorney General James Uthmeier — who came up with the idea to erect the facility in the middle of the Everglades — had assessed the state’s potential civil liability over its treatment of detainees.

I’ve been following this, they haven’t been let in for the most part. When they were let in, it sounds like it was staged.
The members of Congress said they were denied access to view the cages during their oversight visits and were told by DHS and state employees that “detainee reports of their existence and use for punitive or coercive purposes were categorically false.” “We were deceived. It is now clear that this was intended to mislead public officials at public expense,” the legislators wrote.

The denials are so pathetic. We know they’re fascists, and we know they gleefully embrace the idea of accountability-free torture policies on perceived undesirables. (Unfortunately, though, we saw during the WoT that torture has bipartisan support.)
Also, I want to see an audit of Alligator Alcatrez. $400,000,000 to build a tent city doesn’t make any sense whatsoever beyond government patronage and fraud.
Full court press on this one. DeSantis is also tap-dancing about how he laundered millions in stolen Federal funds through his wife’s charity.
Make him juggle these two major scandals, spend his stolen fortune defending himself, and then throw him and his wife in prison for a couple of decades.
Yep, he and his wife stole money from Medicaid, laundered it through the charity she ran, and then used the money to fucking advertise within his campaign. It’s pretty fucking bad.

It’s really bad, bad enough to go to prison for, so let’s not let go of it.
I love that DeSantis’ end-of-term timing is terrible. He doesn’t have any Senate seats to run for, and Trump dislikes him, so there is nowhere in the administration for him. About the only thing he can do is run for president, and now he will have to run while he is deep into two separate scandals, in an election where everybody is fed up with corruption.
