BATON ROUGE, LA—Admitting it was the only way she could accomplish anything lately, local woman Kelley Lawrence reported Friday that she tended to do her best creative thinking when backed into a corner with her livelihood at stake. “The only time inspiration strikes these days is when I’m faced with losing my home and having no place to live if I don’t deliver,” said the 32-year-old architect, adding that there was just something about being threatened with the prospect of having no income with which to buy food to eat that really got her creative juices flowing. “I always come up with my best ideas when the clock is ticking down to that moment when, for example, I will no longer have any way to provide for my two small children and they will become wards of the state. It almost seems futile to get an early start on a project, because I know I won’t produce anything worthwhile until it gets to the point where, if I don’t, we won’t be able to afford my partner’s chemotherapy anymore and I’ll have to watch them die a horrible, agonizing death. I guess that’s just how my brain works!” At press time, Lawrence was relieved to have a few more days to finish an assignment after her landlord agreed to give her until the end of the week before serving her with eviction papers.
