I’m not aware of what changes have been made a few years ago, but it looks like a few months ago North Korea completely abandoned any plans or goals of reunification.
That isn’t the same as saying it can never happen. What happened was a recognition that peaceful reunification is, under the current conditions, impossible, and that the DPRK will cease treating the ROK as merely a puppet and instead as a separate people with their own developed hostile stance towards the DPRK even without the US. This does not mean conditions cannot change in the future, in fact they certainly will.
