      Came here to basically say the same thing. Public execution by the state has been used to set the tone for many a dystopian story from 1984 to The Handmaid’s Tale; not to mention a trope used in any sort of historical period drama to show the depravity of the king or emperor baddy. It is a dog bark (not whistle) of fascist authoritarianism.
