Right-wing media’s racist attacks and ethnic slurs directed at Indians, other South Asians, and South Asian Americans have surged over the past year, in part fueled by conservative infighting over the H-1B visa program and a handful of viral posts.Commentators in the conservative media ecosystem have used anti-Indian slurs and characterized the presence of Indian immigrants as “harmful to America.” Some of these figures allege that the U.S. is being “invaded by Indians” who “have abused the H-1B visa system in order to change America forever.” Additionally, commentators said that H-1B visas “shouldn’t even exist” and claimed that “we need a Northern wall” to prevent Indian migrants coming to the United States from Canada.

    Then perhaps you should read about India. It’s a country where you can gang rape a woman on public transit and get away with it unless it receives international media attention because the woman dies of her injuries. Which is not to say we don’t have a rape problem in the west, but most cultures don’t accept it in public.

    They did at least hang some of the men responsible for that one famous case, but changed basically nothing legally. A woman is raped every 20 seconds in India.
