No soulslikes for me this weekend (probably, maybe, I’ll have to see what my schedule allows), but I’ve gotten back into Slay the Spire 2 and Warframe with my fiancée. It’s been quite hard to get back into the latter, but it’s been fun. STS is obviously still a banger.
Not strictly a soulslike, but I like the White Palace as well as the City of Tears in Hollow Knight. Stellar atmosphere, awesome design and aesthetic, the music is superb. The Hunter’s Dream from Bloodborne is like a second home for me even though it really isn’t in terms of lore.
What are yours?
I am actually playing a soulslike for a change. I got shadps4 working on the steam machine and playing Bloodborne for the first time.
Rad! I’m starting my emulation journey on my Machine. Did you follow a guide to get shadps4 running?
Not really a single guide. I installed shadps4 via emudeck. I fond the bios files by googling. At first I had some visual glitches and had to fiddle around with some settings and patches. Now it works reasonably well.
It’s the bios stuff I’m having difficult with. I have some time today to dive in bc Bloodborne had been on my list forever. Thanks bud!
Bloodborne recomp is coming soon btw
I am playing Control: Resonant right now, so no soulslikes for me. I plan to get back to Hollow Knight: Silksong when the DLC has a release date though.
I did think quite a bit about this haha: I’d say Dark Souls III Firelink Shrine. It somehow gives me both the feeling of hopefulness and hopelessness at the same time. Runner ups would be Elphael from Elden Ring (I love the amount of vegetation and overall city architecture) and Sands of Karak (in it’s prime, like in the Coral Tower from Silksong. The highlight of that region also raises the area a lot in my eye.
It’s been a long time since I played a soulslike and finally booted up Lies of P this week. Pretty cool, specially with mods since it hasn’t been performing too well on my Linux rig, but I’m more grateful about it’s accessibility features than anything else. Can’t praise it for it’s level design with it’s linearity and so many assets placed without measure, logic or purpose, even if the overall victorian/belle epoque vibe is appealing. On a positive note it’s clever audiovisual cues during combat reminded me of a past discussion of yours.
As for locations, this is something I’ll probably want to edit later as more come to mind. Majula is what it is. Love at first sight. Also the Duke’s Archive combined with the crystal cave below was pretty neat, but it’s not the only descent into the abyss I’ve enjoyed in Dark Souls. I spent some time months ago setting up a Runecairn campaign, which is basically a norse soulslike TTRPG. I sadly discarded that and started testing Mausritter, but I was a bit hyped about some things I had come up with for Runecairn. Shame.
Majula of course. It’s a little scuffed like the whole game, but the vibes are perfect.
Honorary mention to the funky underground areas from Elden Ring. From the glowy mushroom star ceiling to the stag bros and the boss, the ambient is great. Very otherworldly feel, creeping a little towards cosmic horror, but so pretty at the same time. I would like to see a game where this kind of atmosphere and travelling between strange worlds is the main focus. Bloodborne had some of it, but missing the beautiful side of it from what I can remember.
I don’t think I have any soulslikes on the deck this weekend. I have Silksong to finish, but I think I’ll just save that for Xmas holidays, so I can focus on it. This weekend will probably be Valheim (stuck in mistlands looking for the boss) and probably a little Warframe as well
Dude, I gotta vent a little. How come a solid like 60% of Warframr missions are utter dog shit? We just tried to capture some courier using our space wingsuits, and it’s so difficult to make out what they even want from us. The individual steps sound easy but then get so weirdly “complicated”. We tried that mission thrice and couldn’t do it. Read up online that apparently the things you’re supposed to be shooting have a tiny hitbox, so you’re better off using AoE attacks for those. But I don’t even have any other weapons for that wing suit I could be using instead. Wtf is this shit? :D
Haha fair, Warframe has a lot of jank, especially on all the older side content like archwing.
I think the mission you’re having trouble with is the pursuit, if I remember right you have to shoot the engines first to slow the ship down, then shoot little round shield generator things. Was that mission required for progress? If not, you could come back to it later with better guns. I think Grattler is the first AOE archgun you can usually get, the blueprint for it comes from clan chem lab, so you would have to join one (or create your own and research it).
Also if you want help, you can add me (GaerthGL in game handle), I’ll be happy to help if we happen to be logged in at the same time.
Yes, that’s the one. And that’s the exact recommendation I found in an old reddit thread when I researched this. I don’t quite remember what we did it for, but there was probably a reason.
We are part of a clan, fortunately, so I guess we can pop in sometime and get it. I feel like such a leech for just getting blueprints from them and not interacting with the clan itself in the slightest, but from what I’ve heard, most clans don’t complain about that since they know that a clan is just a means for an end in the end. Still feels a little scummy lol.
Gladly! I’ll send you a friend request :)
