I don’t really like this meme as it seems to be coming from a right-wing “critique” of communism “is when there’s no food”. Which deliberately ignores why there was no food, and the fact that capitalism is not great in this either, it just runs great propaganda to convince you everything is okay and that those poor prople starving on streets are a cost of business.
Though, we should also anknowledge that when there was a shortage of food, Soviet authorities definitely helped it. For example, Holodomor. Was it a genocide? I frankly do not know, but it was definitely a result of bad consideration on the side of the Communist Party. Same with Lysenkoism, a complex thing that combed up rejection of Darwinism and Mendelian genetics because it was “capitalist” and a cult of personality possible under Stalinism. None of these things would’ve happened if the Soviet Union was truly led by the Soviets, instead of this centralism garbo.

Only if you regard the USSR as in any serious way sincerely socialist, which is a very dubious position.
That is indeed true, what I meant to imply that right-wingers think it is sincerely socialist.
Why do you think it is a critique from the right? There are a lot of signs that todays corporations are actually building a kind of socialism / central-planning. For example, the book “The People’s Republic of Walmart”
Central planning. If it where Socialism the workers would have control
