    As someone who routinely volunteers to be poked and prodded by med students, they genuinely are just people who want to be engaged with as people, and would probably be horrified to know their patients don’t consent, if they were told, which they usually aren’t.

    I get a routine 60-90 injections every 13 weeks and have done for decades now for pain suppression, and my hospital is a teaching hospital.

    And so after establishing where a resident is in their education, if i feel up for the added time, I’ll ask if they are ready to try injections. I can see my neurologist being upset about it some days, because he just wants to get through it, but other days he clarifies for the students that I’m willing to be a pin cushion for them. I get the same level of care either way, sometimes its just slower or more painful while someone learns.

    My mom was an RN, and she complained a lot about how difficult it was to get informed consent for ongoing education, so whenever possible i strive to provide informed consent.
