Given the signs that we could be heading towards government by the Deplorables at the next UK election, NOW would be a great time for Starmer to use his majority to turn to proportional representation (no referendum needed). We may see some Deform candidates that way but not the winner takes all hell of FPTP.

Labour coming second was the worst of all possible outcomes.

If they had won fewer seats than the Lib Dems and come third, they would have seen the writing’s on the wall and there would be more incentive to propose another voting system while they still have some power.

By coming second, the only takeaway will be that if they try harder then they can come first.

The Labour party has some good people in it, but New Labour is characterised by greedy, power-hungry conmen. No-one in charge would ever dream of putting the long-term good of the country above even the slimmest chance of winning everything.

It would a) be representative and b) make the opposition more representative, and hopefully that way keep the government more accountable and inclined to collaborate rather than steamroll. The Frog-in-charge has plans for a UK equivalent of Trump’s project 2025, which would be catastrophic for the UK
