[May 14, 2026 [good article that outlines various (dishonest) approaches by centrist Democratic politicians to Democratic voters’ antipathy to Israel.]
Wendy Sherman, who served as deputy secretary of State under the Biden administration, made headlines in late April when she told Bloomberg that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “led” the United States down the road to “genocide” in Gaza.
In the next sentence, however, Sherman said that she remained a “strong supporter” of Israel. It marked one of the most blatant examples of a rhetorical strategy widely emerging among Democratic politicians since October 7: using language that validates progressive criticism of Israel — including, now, the word “genocide” — while simultaneously insulating themselves from the charge that they have abandoned Israel.
This is an exceedingly charitable headline.
Democrats made up a whole new talking point so they could take AIPAC money and pretend they oppose genocide, stating they support “defensive weapons” or some such bullshit.
Israel has been genociding for decades. Democrats enthusiastically helped them do so. They’re not ‘catching up with voters’. They’re supporting the genocide in Iran and Lebanon and blaming it all on Donald for acting unilaterally.
Saying you still “strongly support” someone who led you to genocide is just blatantly saying you support their genocide. The entire US political establishment is irredeemably guilty.
This election I’m a one issue voter. I don’t care if they are republican or democrat. If they support Israel in any capacity they don’t get my vote. Period.
They are way more worried about their aipac and Israeli lobby donors changing their names than the voters.
