    Maybe Ukraine was the sleeping giant? They keep hitting Russia with new stuff and gained more land than they lost for the first time in the war.

      Ukraine was the technological center for the Soviet Union. Post USSR, it’s development as a world power has been stifled by corruption and Russian interference. For many years it was a puppet state of Russia.

      The main reason Russia started the invasion was their loss of control. The 2014 uprising pushed Russian puppets out of power.
