Also Israel has compulsory military service for nearly all citizens, which means that essentially if you’re of age and an Israeli, you’re not a civilian.

That’s false. They have compulsory public service, which can be in civilian positions, and they have placement tests to determine who goes where. Some of the highest scoring people become teachers.

And lots of Israeli civilians hate their government and have been protesting the war. Framing them all as IDF is ignorant.
