I think with Trump in the US and Netanyahu in Israel bringing so much attention to far right extremism and blasting it all over the internet and showing how absolutely disgusting it can get has opened some peoples eyes. I remember seeing the election in Canada do a complete 180 after it became apparent what was happening with authoritarianism worldwide.

Ah, I wish I could give us that credit.

PPs messaging fell the fuck apart once Trump set his sights on Canada. Going off about how Canada is a ruined piece of shit constantly (PP) was playing fine when there were no external forces at play, but the groundswell of unity once Trump started saying shit like 51st state threw a wrench.

PP just couldn’t pivot. It was suddenly a terrible message. It was fine when the boogeyman was the man in Ottawa, but not when the boogeyman is in Washington.

22 minutes really nailed it, honestly:

Again, I really wish I could attribute the 180 to some kind of awakening. Realistically I think it was just another populist reaction.

Not complaining. Just trying to maintain reasonable expectations

Yes, the rhetoric is a bit more hidden nowadays, but the media is still pushing migrant stories full blast. The lull is temporary.
