Only Nick Offerman rings a bell for me.

Recently there were some apparent set photo leaks, that would set the movie on the same timeline as the game.

thoughts?

One detail that just occurred to me, that I haven’t seen much discussion around, is the fact that the statue of Marika shown in one of these set photos is still found in a ruined church.

I would hazard to guess in that case that the events of this movie are all still post-shattering, or close enough to it, and not the pre-shattering family story of Marika and Radagon that had been speculated.

I’ll be surprised if we get anything resembling a 1:1 adaptation of the game, nor do I even think I’d want one, but whatever they’re going for appears to be edging towards the setting we saw in the game and not that of the background worldbuilding story.

I think the ruined church almost confirms it being set post shattering . If Vyke is the protagonist it would be ok in my book… But If not ooooff, it’s probably be the least interesting approach to an adaptation.

And who knows, it could be that Alex Garland is looking to put together a story that is only a loose adaptation of the original.

Another movie of his, Annihilation, was only a loose adaptation of the novel it is based on, but it still managed to be a great interpretation of the story and setting.

The only difference here, though, is that I never read Annihilation, but I have thoroughly played Elden Ring, so I wonder how much one’s expectations end up coloring their interpretation. I love Annihilation the film, but I am not sure if someone who had read the books and was hoping to see all of their favorite moments on the big screen felt the same.

We’ll just have to see how it all shakes out, I guess. Trying to keep an open mind, but can’t help but be apprehensive about it.

Edit: If it is a Vyke story, Annihilation at least gives me some hope that Garland would be able to pull off the frenzied flame elements really well.

I’ve read and watched Annihilation and loved both. The film is very different on the details, but it does very effectively convey the same broader-scale ideas. I think it does a great job of adapting a story in a manner that is spiritually faithful if not literally faithful. Garland describes it as “a dream of the book”, and I think that works well

Perhaps, a loose adaptation could also be interesting if it doesn’t contradict or mess with the lore too much, although i was hoping that the movie adapted parts of the story that are in the past, or just implied… I crave more pre shattering stuff, etc. But the good thing is an adaptation can never detract from the game. If it’s not good we can just pretend it doesn’t exist. XD

Different Kit, I’m afraid, I don’t see Harington attached to this project… this is the guy: Kit Connor

          maybe with some good characterization?

Also: redhead + aaaabs, maybe Radagon in flashbacks and stuff? Idk
