I can’t decide which is worse: dumping oil into the sea or burning it.
Pretty ridiculous that they are trying to do climate research and depend on containers full of fossil fuels.
Unfortunately there is no better option. They tried nuclear at McMurdo and it was a mess. There’s not enough sun for solar, the ocean freezes so you can’t use tides, and I doubt a wind turbine would work well in antarctic weather.
And honestly, the amount of fuel burned by all the stations in Antarctica combined pales in comparison to the emissions from a single container ship.
