There will be more of this. Candidates will have had easy access to the internet at younger ages. Edgy polarising shit is encouraged on the internet, it’s all gas no brakes here. So we’ll see more candidates with edgy polarising history that they may, or may not still believe.
Maybe I’m sympathetic because I was an insufferable know-it-all antithesist that, like antithesist of the time, shared my fair share of bigoted shit.
Maybe I’m sympathetic because I’ve found myself on the fringes of society due to my belief that genocide is bad actually.
Maybe, I’m sympathetic because the poor are getting poorer, the rich are getting richer, and perhaps there’s a connection there.
I dunno, we have to figure out what we’ll do about this stuff. To lead the sanitized adolescence/ young adulthood, that is void of attack lines, makes you unfit for office I think.
It’s probably a sign of the time. I want someone radical enough to make the changes I think are so desperately needed. This hypothetical person has to have pushed at the boundaries of society, otherwise they wouldn’t be radical enough. In pushing at boundaries they will have inevitably crossed them. Someone that has never done drugs, never been to protests, never said BLM, or eat the rich, or ACAB, never spoke positively about Luigi, they aren’t going to effectively handle wealth inequality. I don’t mean the candidate has to have done all those things, all gas no brakes, but to have not done any of them?
All of which to say, she unequivocally attacked Indian men. Will she attack them today? Because we’re voting for the person today, not the 13 years younger one. The real question is could Indian men be comfortable/feel safe with this person as their candidate. Not one I can answer.
This tweet was made 13 years ago, in response to a particular event that had happened to me whilst backpacking as a young person - and wasn’t ever meant for public consumption.
“Hence why I deleted it several years ago. It reflects the lack of constructive spaces for people facing sexual assault at the time
Wow! What a spin. There’s no safe spaces for people facing sexual assault so I’m going to denigrate all Indian men as rapists.
Is the Green Party trying to compete with Reform for the most inappropriately selected candidates? Why can’t these parties get their candidates properly?
I think partly because what sane person wants to be a candidate?
To open their lives up to intense public scrutiny. To have deleted 13 year old tweets brought up. Particularly so if you’re opposed to those with vast amounts of power and wealth with majority control over the country’s press, who will have no qualms distorting facts to make a hatchet job on you. Every fart, sneeze, and little wrongdoing by Greens is inflated into a massive moral issue compared with what Reform candidates just seem to shrug off. The press don’t question Reform’s morality in anywhere near the same manner.
You’ve got to be a special kind of person to want that instead of leading a private life.
To then spend your days sparring with narcissistic bigots in opposing parties.
Yeah, no wonder the talent pool is poor. Still better than openly and proudly bigoted, corrupt, fascist, or narcissistic people though. Imperfect Green candidates at least stand for and are pushing for a better world, unlike Reform who want to drag us into 1930s Germany.
Yeah, the green party never had much electoral success until the past couple of years. So they don’t have much existing infrastructure for vetting candidates. They also pride themselves on being a “decentralized party”, so their local branches are responsible for vetting their own candidates for local elections.
From my experience as a member, the selection process for a councilor candidate is just a zoom call and a vote afterwards. I have no idea what kind of background any given candidate has (beyond trusting what they said in their personal statements), or if they have any dirt online in the past.
Or if they have the right to work (Scottish Greens)
An entirely separate party with no affiliation with each other. Should we discuss the Republican party while talking about Reform? It’s no different.
And who you’re alluding to does have the right to be an MSP as was laid out in the Scottish Elections Franchise and Representation Act.
Let’s see if they’re working remotely from India in three years time, when their visa expires. They’ll have a lot of work to do on their own, as he isn’t able to hire any workers to help him.
Hopefully the racist is deported before then due to their hatred spread about white people.
If you’re talking about that MSP, they are legally allowed to stand. You do not need a work visa to be MSP.
Graduate visa expires in 3 years. They won’t get another visa. Term is for five years.
Where does she call all indian men rapists though?
