> ❗️EU expands sanctions to Hamas politburo members

The European Union has widened its sanctions against Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad by adding members of Hamas’s Politburo to the list.

On Friday, the bloc announced that ten members of Hamas’s senior political leadership body had been subjected to travel bans and asset freezes, preventing any funds or economic resources from being made available to them, whether directly or indirectly.

A press release said: “In their capacity as decision-makers of the organisation, the members of the Politburo have knowledge of the planning, preparation and execution of violent actions by Hamas.”

“They actively defend and justify such violent actions, often publicly warning and threatening future attacks,” it added.

The bloc reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts toward a “lasting peace” in Gaza. “The disarmament of Hamas is an essential prerequisite for progress in this direction,” it said
