As a straight guy, I must emphasise, “straight but not narrow (minded)”. Also, that phrase is awesome and I will try to work it into my lexicon.
(The problem is, I’m Gen X and “queer” was derogatory for so long. The LGBTQ+ community has been reclaiming it for so long, it’s not really derogatory anymore, but it still feels like “using the hard R” as it were.)
Yeah, I grew up with shit like “smear the queer” not being just something asshole kids would pull, but gym teachers. So the adjustment to queer being taken over by the community was strange in the extreme.
