had at least four sets of dentures he used throughout his life. Made with brass, lead, gold, animal teeth, and human teeth purchased from slaves

Well that’s a new fact for me

How many weren’t using them due to morality rather than not being able to afford it? I’ll bet not many, if at all.

I could give examples, but all told, owning people as property has always been evil, and there have always been people who know that simple moral fact

I thought the previous comment was specifically referring to using slave teeth, but it actually was saying a lot of people were monsters in general. Societal pressure provides some excuse, but not enough, agreed.

    He was a genius politician

One trick he had was to pretend to be undecided on an issue. He’d invite over people he was trying to influence for a nice dinner and have two of his cronies stage a debate on the issue as an ‘entertainment.’

After hearing the faked debate, Washington would ‘reluctantly’ agree with the issue.

A god? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t think he was an opportunist who owned slaves like most of the white colonial era land owning males. And opinions of “the founders” have only declined since I have been alive.

I mean yes there are different opinions about the dude, but they build him a statue where he is literally portrayed as an ancient Roman god would have been:

Edit: after reading the OP again, yeah the “entire” in there is what I disagree with as well.

Where is that statue? The only statue I am aware of is in Richmond, and he’s depicted fully clothed, kinda like statues of Napoleon

Have you seen any ads for the movie “Young Washington”? Hopefully not. They make me mad and wonder how they managed to get actors like Andy Serkis and Ben Kingsley.

The Mormon church teaches that the “Founding Fathers” were inspired by God and raised by God to make sure that the US would be created.

Washington may not be revered as a god, but Mormons and many conservatives see him as an icon and saint.

Eh the objective wasn’t to beat the British single-handed, it was to drag out an insurgency long enough for foreign aid to come in and for the British to decide it wasn’t worth it. Which Washington did very well.

His greatest skill was his ability to inspire his troops and keep them fighting through several very rough years. Also, voluntarily ceding power after two presidential terms was nothing short of revolutionary at the time and set the precedent for the next 250 years of democracy.
