In a book about children getting maimed, murdered, dismembered and consumed, people are more concerned that they’re having sex.

I am not saying childhood gangbangs are good. I’m not saying that. Just that a lot of worse things happen in that book.

Like would I be more traumatized if I had sex with all my besties or if I was hunted by an evil clown alien from space who killed my classmates?

TL,DR: People aren’t offended by the idea kids have sex, but by the fact the author is a pedophile.

I don’t think people dislike this because kids having sex with other kids is traumatic for them. More that writing about children having an orgy for no real reason raises some questions about the sexual proclivities of the author.

I’ve tried reading some of King’s other works and they all seem to have somewhat random smut moments that are kind of just uncomfortable because why is this here at all?

The answer is: because the author was horny. So, that being the case, having a needless sexual scene centered around kids really does paint the picture of a pedophile author

it’s the same annoying parts i found with Niven’s Rimworld series and some later Man/Kzin stuff. Just wonton descriptions of inter species hanky panky.

Clearly these guys just write to get hard; like in King’s book, the scene is irrelevant.

The book explores a lot of discomforting topics. It seems like he was testing his readers limits for discomfort, which is what he’s said about the scene.

It makes more sense if you have seen his worst twitter posts. I hadn’t thought about him since I read Under the Dome on a flight. Under the Dome is terrible. 2nd worst flight book after World War Z as an idiot teenager (zombie fiction loves to glaze Israel, & that one actually includes Japan & Rhodesia glazing too). Just avoid regular publishers at this point. Get into a literary scene or learn a new language. This kind of shit is all over sci-fi. You ever read Snow Crash lmao?

Uhh there is this one part at the end that really disgusted me as a kid I don’t even wanna say on here but I have seen people defend. Would be a CSA trigger warning. Wild. Also was thinking if Neil Gaiman

Well it tries to frame itself as being critical of Bush admin war in Iraq because “shock and awe tactics” are simply ineffective against the thick mucus inside the zombies. Which is super dumb… Anyways it treats Israel & Rhodesias apartheid plans & “antiterrorism” as something which makes the former uniquely resilient in a zombie apocalypse & the latter’s plans to create sacrifice cities as a necessary evil to sustain the human race. Just off the top of my head. The whole thing is just military worship, interviews with tough generals. Actually credit to my sister she told me I was dumb for liking it and I reread it in a non sleep deprived state & got super mad

Also there is an otaku with a katana. Insipid book
