Better at what? Trains? Yeah. Watches? Probably. Chocolate? you bet. Hoarding Nazi gold? That too, probably. But hey, at least they tax the rich.

Also, Nestle. And money of all the wrong people from around the world in their banks.

When my dad was a bus driver, a Swiss couple visiting my city got on the bus and gave him a bar of Swiss chocolate as a small gesture of appreciation before they got off. He gave it to me and it was so good! Bärner Schoggi I think it was called.

        That’s pretty generous
Maybe we’re spoiled here, but last time we almost missed a flight, because a train stopped and we needed to switch - which was planned to go directly to the destination
And our seat reservation was nil, because they removed a wagon - but we got upgraded to first class because of that, which was neat

I guess, there is always room for improvement

I’m especially jealously looking at fast trains in China and Japan, but now with a new tunnel, we also cut down the times quite a bit.
Takes me 1,5 to 2 hours by car, but 40mins by train on this route

We should do much more of that, because then cars are getting less and less attractive

Ah, you live near/in Klagenfurt or Graz then. The new tunnel is a great example of how Austria does invest quite well in their train network, I barely ever get any delays and with the klimaticket I don’t have to pay anything except seat reservation (which I admit is annoying).

I’ve lived in Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Ireland, and england thus far in life and the best train network has been the Austrian one (with Italy a close second).

And sure high speed would be great but it’s not very easy given the geography of Austria, I’ll be moving to Japan next year, so I guess I will get to try out high speed and see what their systems is like

            Wow, pretty good guess!

I went to school in Klagenfurt and live since more than 2 decades in Graz now

Sadly the new tunnel doesn’t help me, because my mother isn’t in Klagenfurt and getting from there to her is a pain in the ass without a car

Still, my wife just travelled to Vorarlberg and usually it’s a long way and now they also take the Koralmtunnel, because it’s so much faster

So yeah, that’s really good improvement and we need more of that kind

Weird enough, when I was younger, I met some homeless (self called) gypsies in Belgium who travelled around Europe and played music - even with kids (and I’m not sure how I want to think of that) - and I played guitar with them on the streets, which was an absolutely amazing experience
But they also said, in Austria it’s great.
They didn’t have a ticket and the conductor/guard just said ok and let them drive

There are quite some people with a great heart in Austria - and also brains - but the far right push is just unbearable…

Wish you good luck and much fun in Japan!
Always wanted to visit that country
Probably because of all the anime in my youth, but even before that, Japan just has something to it in their culture :-)
            Hope you can enjoy it!
