Pump Up the Volume was released in 1987, the 10 years of rave music that followed was very exciting, before corporations worked out how they could “extract value” … The Shamen were a fun part of that :-)

I think that one fundamental thing that’s worse in the modern world is that there’s fewer opportunities for young people to do their own thing, to genuinely rebel, without it being immediately commercialised as much as possible :-/ I should be yelling at kids to get off my lawn, not worrying about them being exploited.

Sorry, I don’t know where that came from.

Yep I had a super fun time in my youth just being out and about, nothing in particular to do, and then in a somewhat more organized manner at teen dance clubs or club nights and rave parties. I think they were way more popular in Europe (The Shamen) after Boss Drum I didn’t really hear much from them here again, but I really enjoyed Axis Mutatis too. They had some rad early web sites as well

I dunno haha, I agree I feel real bad about how kids today have it

I was in the UK, and caught the tail end of illegal raves after I ran away from home. It was wild and dangerous, between creeps, criminals, and the police.

And while things could have turned out better for me, at least I had a genuine avenue to rebel against everything that had come before me.
