A student pilot successfully landed a plane by herself after her instructor jumped to his death mid-flight.

She said her instructor told her “You know what to do” before leaping from the aircraft.

The article shows a picture of the instructor next to an image of a small single engine cessna.

Comment reads: You could literally land a plane by yourself after your instructor jumps to his death mid-flight and they’d still use a picture of a man.

I mean, why should i be surprised someone who’s been training to fly was able to land a plane? That’s not news. Seems more misogynistic to be surprised a woman could land the plane.

Some crazy fuck committing suicide by jumping out like that very much is news though lol

More that she was a student who landed a plane after her instructor literally jumped out and died. I get that landing a little cesna like that isn’t hard, but it’s a hell of an stressfull circumstance.

Doing anything while in shock is no simple feat. It’s almost as if militaries have entire multi-week to multi-month long training procedures to work around that … that are still largely ineffective on first contact.

Oftentimes the media won’t report on suicides in order to not inspire copycats.

why should i be surprised someone who’s been training to fly was able to land a plane?

Because it could have ended very badly if they weren’t trained enough.
