Microsoft's latest environmental report shows the growing tension between its race to build AI infrastructure and its long-standing climate commitments.
“We care about the environment, that’s why we pledge to become carbon neutral by 2030. If we work hard, I’m positive that meeting our goal by 2035 is possible. Not just possible, but necessary. Getting rid of our footprint by 2040 will show we are industry leaders championing a new method of production that protects the environment and everyone in it. I am so confident that we can hit our target of 2050 that I, a 67 year old CEO, will step down if we fail to accomplish it.”
