I will die on this hill, but I hate the “souls-likes are hard” bullshit fans always push. I think it makes some people feel good about themselves or something. They’re honestly almost all pretty easy though. In a normal game, when you die you reload and lose progress. In a souls-like you keep some of your progress. The good ones are also built to be easy if you’re paying attention. Yeah, brute forcing a boss can be a challenge, but that’s not your only (or best) option, unlike most other games where that’s a requirement. They give you so many choices to do other things and come back stronger that they really aren’t that hard, outside of some optional challenges or challenge runs.

Theyre hard in the same way that simon says is hard. With enough game knowledge it can begin to feel trivial.

The analogy is correct, but it isn’t just game knowledge. It’s just that they ask you to pay attention. If you do, most bosses have weaknesses that the game tries to tell you.
