Wasn’t Toyota the brand most hesitant to move to proper EVs from hybrids and also the third biggest anti-climate lobbyist in the world?

I’m pretty sure their definition of EV is more focused on PHEVs than BEVs, which is to say, gas powered vehicles

      Okay yes, per article

continuing its EV rollout and leaning harder into hybrids.

In the paragraph about how this isn’t a decision to spend more on EVs, it’s a decision not to cut them

I always got the feeling Toyota really dislikes lithium batteries.

The article crucially says Toyota delayed participating in the first part of the cycle so they look “smart” only with luck and the benefit of selective retrospect. Sorta like a guy who got wasted and overslept and avoided dying in a plane crash.

I can attest this is true. Before the US $7,500 EV credit expired last year I went to multiple Toyota dealerships and they had zero meaningful EV offerings. They tried to put me in a truck.

Avoid Subaru too because their EVs are just Toyotas.

That’d be true of the Uncharted (Toyota C-HR EV) but the Trailseeker is a Subaru first design

Which is a shame because there are so many neat little Subaru models that would be great with an electric version.

Their double down is still behind where most of their rivals are retreating to. Toyota has some nice hybrids and PEHV, but nearly everyone else has some nice EVs.

I enjoy shitting on Toyota for dragging their feet on EVs. But the 2027 EV Highlander looks like they might actually be taking it seriously. They’re even saying it can power your house through the NACS port.

They still need more reliable ev models without surveillance.

I don’t want a BYD car watching my every move so Jinping can plot his reprisals against me.

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we’ll have a much better environment.
