    My spouse and I had the doctor not tell us the sexes of our children. That way it wouldn’t bias us, they were fun surprises, and — most importantly — so nobody bought us a bunch of pointlessly gendered gifts.

    If any readers are trying or expecting, I’d just suggest that you ask the doctor to say “they” or “it” every visit, since the doctor will certainly know and has a bazillion other patients.
