Lemmy is not going to like this but… Depending on your career and if you are looking to change jobs, you might just want to bite the bullet.
As much as people rightfully hate it, LinkedIn is THE platform for jobs in certain industries. You can make this your hill to die on, just be aware that there may be no real alternatives, and you may find yourself alone without a life raft.
It’s like being against WhatsApp in South America. That’s great for you, but 90% of people and businesses use that as their method of communication, often as the ONLY method of communication.
You’re gonna have to weigh for yourself if it’s worth it or not.
Look, you can hate pants. Despise them. Proudly state that society is dumb for embracing them and adamantly refuse to wear them. That is your right. You can make that choice. You will be going against the grain and against societal expectations and will likely run into difficulties and challenges that people who just decide to go ahead and wear pants wont face, but that is your choice to make.
If you are in a position in life that you can say “fuck you”! Then more power to you. But if you are job hunting, or think you will be in the future, well… Again, you don’t HAVE to, but things will be significantly harder for you if you don’t. Yes it sucks. Yes it’s unfair. But it’s not something most people can feasibly do anything about.
And as long as there are people, who willingly gulp down every us-american surveillance and privacy-killing endeavors, nothing will ever change. Glory to the holy empire just because I want one of those jobs? How pathetic, sorry.
With that pragmatism one could really justify everything. If only the majority does it too, or is just oblivious and/or ignorant of the underlaying problems.
