To think that, besides of a few key items like AV1 processing, most new graphics cards are actually worse (and more expensive!) than their predecessors.
In computing power per €$¥£ on release day, they’re clearly worse. This has more to do with the market, than with the capabilities of those pieces of hardware.
Also there are diminushing returns in visual quality. The last couple generations of RTX were and still are more than enough for gamin . Even if the market were not crazy, buying a newer card would still be a hard sell.
No wonder NVidia is focusing on AI/LLMs. They’re a way to massively grow GPU sales, whereas gaming rig sales would give them stable or barely growing sales.
Funny… I just gave away a whole system with a 3080 in it. I have another, even older system with a 2080 inside gathering dust upstairs.
