During the entire time I followed the hardware, Nintendo refused to acknowledge the issue and even only replaced them on countries that brought meaningful legal action to them. When you say newer ones do you mean Nintendo or other manufacturers? I still seem to only find hall effect ones from third parties on our poor excuse of a search engine (google).
For those of us that didn’t follow VR, which controllers are drift prone.
From a non-VR perspective, the switch controller I own suck and drift. Is it that bad as well on that front?
A lot of us are tired of high end BS no one can afford and highly proprietary stuff. Hollow Knight is the best game I’ve played in a long, long time and it could have been played with my 10+ year old midrange computer vs the updated one which was quieter for sure but didn’t feel like much of an upgrade given how unoptimized AAA games are now.
Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise and we might see some actual game engine optimizations that don’t expect hardware to keep getting better to perform. Plenty of games that were previously seen as a no go are now targeting the steam deck, which makes them more playable overall in every system.
Edit: my point: more sales = more interest = better optimization = better graphics at a lower entry point.

Never buy HP. Source: owned an HP and received another used one as a gift. There’s a reason they are the cheapest option, the ink situation is horrible.

The ones I had you could do it over the air, but some do require access to the pins. Even with soldering experience it is not approachable as bulbs are not packaged to be opened, it is part of why I check for offline or flash compatibility before buying as even the same “model” could have different hardware revisions. No info = avoid.
As an alternative, we have found bulbs that can run tasmota with the MQTT integration to be perhaps the most reliable part of our smart home (as long as the hardware already had a descent CRI). I’ve heard good things about ESP home too, but we have not tried it.
If someone has some light bulbs that are laggy (due to cloud integrations) or a pain to use due to software, its worth checking out of tasmota or esp home can be installed on them to locally pair with something like home assistant. It turned a regretful purchase into a nice addition.
With that said, we don’t buy connected devices any longer without checking internet and cloud requirements first.
They could just provide some standard API and/or format for studios and film makers to do it themselves. Plenty of indie or smaller studios would take advantage, which would push the larger players to at least do deleted scenes, bloopers and making of kind of sections for at least some titles.
