Looks like a cuttlefish, so probably safe as long as you aren’t an easily-hypnotizable crab

History Memes@piefed.social•Ah, the good ol' days!English
6·17 days agoHopefully your minor infections are too foreign to them and don’t simply wipe them off the earth. And hopefully the food available doesn’t completely fuck up your modern digestion.
But I’m with you on going back really far. Before property ownership. Before human-caused climate change started (which was well before industrialization, due to cook/heat fires).
Downside: dogs and cats not domesticated yet. Probably no/limited pack animals either. If you don’t find the locals relatable or existing, you’re in for a rough time. Also most/all food hadn’t been selectively bred yet, and was nothing like what we are used to today, was all small, hard, seedy, not very sweet. Most foods we eat are also non-native, and were brought back from global exploration, so that varied diet you are anticipating might be largely salted or smoked meat, instead. Certainly the case if you go somewhere with seasons. I have a rough idea of what can be foraged around me, but most of it is modern cultivars. The wild ones are kinda meh, tbh, you have to get really creative to use them.
But a major upside is even if you are the dumbest person alive today, you’ve got a LOT of knowledge to offer such primitive societies.
Must be how they use so much water, too. Makes perfect sense.
(Seriously under the hood of a bolt the only interesting thing there that isn’t sealed in a metal box is three separate cooling fluids plus washer fluid. Just so much fluid.)
Not really an option to not have a phone line of some sort and insurance, you know?
At least it’s pre-paid and I can bounce whenever I want. Don’t even have to cancel, just port my number.
I’ve switched everything I can away from subscriptions, even swapping to pre-paid phone plan. If I could do the same with my Internet or insurance, I absolutely would.
I like not having small-ish amounts of money come out every month. It’s easier to plan for a big chunk once a year. It’s also much easier to see tiny customer-fucking price increases because they represent a greater difference in annual payment over monthly.
This is definitely what they see when they zonk out

1·3 months agoAlso face blind - I use voice as primary clue, not just pitch but intonation and vocalization patterns. I’m a big language nerd and a natural mimic, so vocal qualities stick out nicely for me and are often the only clue I need. After that I keep a list, basically, of feature descriptions that “are” a person, because oh joy, I also am aphantasic and can’t just pull up some reference image, even if individual features (possibly somewhat related in my case)
I get a LOT of false positive hits on sight alone, but with vocal cues I’m rarely mistaken.
Going missing in crowds because I don’t remember/know what the person is supposed to be wearing so I can’t recognize them on sight is the worst, and I’m short so I only see a few options at a time in a sea of people. It’s super un-fun. Fortunately by now everyone I know is fully aware that I don’t actually recognize them most of the time, and so they go looking for me.
The worst for me is when I see someone who flags all the descriptor traits for a person I haven’t seen in a while, and I don’t know if I actually know them or just have that feeling, so I feel compelled to talk to them to sort out why they feel familiar. It happens kinda a lot, especially with women who resemble my late mother, which is a uniquely uncomfortable feeling, so I don’t actually talk to those people knowing I’m probably wrong, but man that compulsion…
The people I know refer to those people as “bougie” (boo-gee) as in bourgeoisie.

I had a very friendly cat for many years who would come to meet new people and would hang out with them over the members of the household. He was everyones friend, even loved the post carriers, but this trick wouldn’t have worked because he was very very insistent upon meeting people as soon as they came over. He’d trot over and beg for attention, stretching himself up for pickups. Such a good boy.
Anyone who stayed over was treated to the absolute best cuddle buddy all night.
