  • Bonnie and Clyde were celebrated as heroes by the citizens who lost everything in 1929 when the banks failed. They were just acting in self interest but it didn’t matter because people wanted them to hurt the banks. It’s the same story with the train robbers like Jesse James from the guilded age. Studies show as the general population loses faith in their government and institutions their support for vigilantism goes up and that’s where we find ourselves now with Luigi. In England where the Robbin hood story took place they were under the feudal system so I’m guessing public sentiment was not in favor of the feudal lords and their enforcers. Anyone that challenged that oppressive system would have been hailed a hero to the peasantry whether they gave back or not. However, giving back would certainly buy you more protection from the people and would be a strategic investment in your own security. El chappo knew that too. Anyway that’s my two cents. The story is probably loosely based on true events but has probably been exaggerated over time.
