I think they neither understand how authoritarean states manage to stay in power, nor how even discounting that you’d need some paragon of socialist virtue at the top to give that up.

What I mean by the first line is that even if your leader genuinely wants to dissolve the state eventually, they can’t stay in power without surrounding themselves with people that are both power hungry and stupid, so dissolving the state would fail on account of those people. I guess maybe they believe it’s realistic to also have all those people have genuine intentions, but it’s just not.

The fact that it happens at all is honestly baffling though. The anti-woke crowd absolutely plays it up (or more likely just gets fed sensationalized headlines and never verifies them) beyond its actual scope, but mostly it’s just the crown on top of a lot of general low quality localization. Which isn’t even necessarily the localizers fault, as from what I know they were often overworked and had very little time to translate, or were missing the visual context.

The recent scandal with the game yunyun syndrome is the worst I know of, but I vaguely recall some obviously politically motivated changes in meaning in anime subs. It’s not made up, but it’s really just one particular expression of a wider issue with tl quality.

The long term cost of nuclear is by far the highest, unless we actually figure out a no maintenance storage method or other way to get rid of the waste. It’s cheap in the moment, but effectively taking on a debt for a very long time. Not that dissimilar to fossil fuels, really. And just like with fossil fuels, the costs are socialized, because whatever company is responsible for the waste probably won’t be around in 100, 500, or 1000 years.

Iirc the idea was that it’s tracable on the seller side, but not the buyer side. So anonymous, but tracable for tax purposes. It’ll remain to be seen how much data about the buyer can be inferred anyway.

Overall, I just try to be better than average for people in my area. If everyone did that, we’d keep moving the average to a better point. I don’t need to completely upend my life for ultimately negligible impact, but I refuse to be the problem.

The wealth of industrialized nations is only possible through exploitation of developing countries. When conditions there become literally unlivable, everything collapses and everyone loses. maybe russia could slightly benefit since they aren’t doing super well as is and have a lot of land that will become pretty good. Even then, they can kiss goodbye to seafood forever, and it certainly won’t be easy.

There are some people that actually kinda love those jobs, but idk if there are enough of them. And a game of chicken where the first person to become too annoyed at the smell in the streets fixes the issue would be… not great.

Defining groups of species with a common word is always going to be ambiguous, but you need to stay consistent in what you use to define it. By the same logic you can argue that humans are fish, because whales clearly are fish if you just look at them, and whales and humans are both mammals.
