And it is not only this.
It also has the danger to invoke “chilling effects”, so self-censorship in normally private environments.
Chat control and similar ideas are anti-democratic and suppressive at their very core.

“Was kann man dann doch machen? Nimm einen Sudetendeutschen!”
Spaltung?

It’s actually a German book, but translated into 27 other languages, because world class literature! :-)
Without the hand, it would be at least 20$.
Most common artist mistake: Deciding to add hands.

World News@quokk.au•A massive 11,000-carat ruby has been unearthed in Myanmar’s war-scarred gemstone heartland
2·16 days agoWell, at least it doesn’t require the blood and forced labor of people in 3rd world countries while also not filling the pockets of oppressive dictatorships.
But perhaps that is the appeal to some, only explanation I have.

15·17 days agoI am at a complete loss why digging up rubies is still a profitable thing with efficient lab-growing of rubies being around for already a hundred or so years.

Europe@feddit.org•Europe considering banning VPN for 'children protection'English
1·20 days agoWell in that case, this only reinforces the idea that trying to ban them is an awful idea.
Yes, it would be - if someone was actually considered banning them.
Which (out of the reasons you mentioned) nobody does.OP has been posting fake information about “banning” in their headline, which this comment thread actually is about…

71·20 days agostop trying to rationalize the trojan horse of age verification
Nobody is doing that.
The comment has been about OP spreading fake information by claiming the EU is considering banning VPNs.
Fake news is bad in itself and in this case might even hurt the cause of stopping privacy restrictions in the mid to long run.Which defeats the purpose of the VPN
You should look up the purpose of a VPN.
how many half wits and half cocked votes you have on this, fuck all the way off
This language is completely out of place here.
Stay respectful and don’t insult (that’s not only me, but also rule 3 of this community).

6010·20 days agoDude, the heading is still a completely false statement.
Nobody is considering banning VPNs.
It’s about possible age verification for VPNs (which is already more than bad enough out of obvious privacy reasons).
Please stop spreading fake news.

World News@lemmy.ml•Europe considering banning VPN for 'children protection'
66·20 days agoIt’s bullshit.
Yes, you are right, it is.
(although the “children can’t buy internet” argument that turns up every time this topics are discussed, is also bullshit).it’s identity verification
Yep, totally. End of anonymous use of the internet is the wet dream of some (primarily conservative) politicians.
But this has not been the point of my comment.
Rather that distributing fake news (“want to ban VPNs”) doesn’t magically become the right thing to do because the cause is a righteous one.
