Elder millennial here and I really dislike nostalgia. A lot of old friends seem very stuck in the past, always talking about how things used to be and I see it as a sign that they’re unhappy in their current situation. People who look forward and talk about new things seem to be happier.

Read the 1987 novel Swan Song. One of the character’s arcs starts in a very similar situation.
