Memes@lemmy.ml•Past failures don't define the future of socialism
171·13 hours agoYou may not believe in classes, but that doesn’t negate their existence.
We will continue to support AES states (current and those sadly no longer extant). Go advocate for utopianism somewhere else.
If I remember correctly, the “group” names in Japanese are based on shape but aren’t always intuitive, and sometimes a certain number of them will have its own special name or way of counting - the sort of thing that requires a lot of rote memorization.
Does it have different words for the number of objects in a group like Japanese does, or just different types of groups of objects?
It was always the tones that made me anxious about trying to learn it; I’m glad to hear that’s overstated.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Encountered some Chinese Communist propaganda today
10·2 days agoI think USian communists are at a disadvantage, given how little foreign languages are taught in our schools. Not that it’s an excuse, but it does mean finding free time on our own as adults (a less ideal time for learning languages) while working to support ourselves.
I hope to at least eventually brush up on the ones I learned in school. Learning Mandarin would be really useful, but I don’t know when I’d find the time if I’m being honest with myself.
Rural areas tend to require 4-wheel drive more often, which tends to be offered more often on SUVs and the like (the added clearance doesn’t hurt). But cars across the board in the US have been getting larger for the last 30 years, to the point it’s even causing problems with road maintenance. The more compact vehicles common in Asian and European cities are often not even sold in the US anymore.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Yeah those protests and votes will sure show capitalism! 2nd amendment? whats that? sounds AuThOrITarIAn
8·2 days agoMeanwhile they pay a huge portion in premiums only to be denied coverage when they actually need it. Somehow the ‘death panels’ are a-okay as long as they’re the boards of for-profit hospitals or insurance companies. The contradictions are sharpening though (see the doctor shortage) and I think all but the most brainwashed are waking up. You only have to look at the overwhelmingly positive reception Luigi got to see that.

8·3 days agoThe message that this is as good as it can possibly be is hammered into people from all sides. It is, I would argue, one of the key tenets of all forms of idealism, and serves the interests of the powers that be. People who don’t believe that better is possible are much less likely to try to rise up and make things better.
If I remember correctly, housing costs were allowed to balloon like they have for precisely this reason, to make workers willing to accept the disappearance of pensions as an expected benefit.

Europe@lemmy.ml•The putsch to oust Britain’s Keir Starmer is finally taking shape
7·5 days agoA little absurd to call this a “putsch”; shame on Politico for that atrocious headline. It serves Starmer right for ousting Corbyn, anyway.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Am I the only one that believe the US has to go through some sort of painful transition/civil war/revolution to fix it? Is reforms from Democrats enough?
1·5 days agoThe other actually existing socialist states: Cuba, the DPRK, Vietnam, and Laos.
Rural areas also have less well-maintained roads, poorer lighting, and more wildlife that may run into the road, in addition to requiring more driving because everything is further apart.

3·5 days agoSo it does. The future isn’t set in stone, for better or worse. The empire can do its damnedest to try to delay socialism, but it cannot stop it - of that I remain convinced.

5·5 days agoThis is the one. If all these big companies make it clear that AGI isn’t right around the corner, the gravy train is going to derail, and we can’t have that, now, can we?

3·5 days agoI have hope for the third world, at least. I’m much more cautious about the fate of the working class in the heart of the imperial core.

Use an alias service like addy.io or Proton’s SimpleLogin (I think DDG has a service too, or did) to create an email address to forward emails to your actual address, and then just don’t use the alias for anything else. I believe both of those take anonymous payment methods.
