1·8 hours agoCan Boeing still even make KC-46s anymore? A bunch of their planes are on comedic levels of backorder because they can’t deliver anything.

6·1 day agoBooming exports have been shielding China from the fallout of the Iran war even though the adverse consequences of higher oil prices are playing out on factory floors as manufacturers cope with surging raw material costs.
Yehaw
Hard to pack an entire national economic plan into a pithy two paragraph hypothetical.
But the baseline - all labor has the value of the hours allocated to it - forces a model that values human capacity for productive surplus over value of capital accumulation.
That’s a strong premise for whatever you want to build on top of it.

2·1 day agoWord is just a shitty application for text.
It’s fine. People love to shit on the app because Microsoft Bad. But it’s living at the rough midpoint of application quality, at least in it’s modern incarnation.
PowerPoint, likewise, is a shitty slide show application.
As a slideshow app, it’s another perfectly fine piece of software.
What’s disgusting about PowerPoint isn’t the app but the LinkedIn psychos who use it

32·2 days agoActive Listening is generally well-received, in my experience. Engaging with someone, asking follow-up and clarifying questions, maybe even going on a verbal detour when you want to hear more about something specific - tends to make for a good conversation.
YMMV. Some people just want a silent audience to consume their own personal podcast. Others get angry if you’re not the one carrying the conversation. But when you click, you can go back and forth like this for hours and feel like no time at all had passed.

3·2 days agoSorry. Natural Gas Liquids. Some combination of methane, ethane, isobutane, and propane, which are compressed/chilled to a liquid state for transportation and used to power electric generators.

2·2 days agoI think we’ll eventually see folks migrate to Jupiter Notebook style data entry and management. But they’re relatively new and not well-integrated into modern workflows.
For the time being, people are brought into offices and trained on Excel, get comfortable with Excel, and continue to use Excel because that’s how they spend the bulk of their hours. You’ve got networking effect and priors cementing these apps as the go-to for an entire generation.

News At Eleven
Incidentally, NGL plants are being built out rapidly in Texas for a tangential reason. Unlike with coal, an NGL plant can turn itself off and on quickly and easily. Consequently, when the sun is shining, NGLs can turn off rather than selling electricity into a cheap market. And when it is night/overcast, they turn on to make up the difference

02·3 days agowe had a choice put before us
We did not. Primaries were cancelled and the general was rigged.
You can bring all kinds of other conjecture
Nothing about this is conjecture. Dems dismantled the machinery that moved people to the polls. Then they lost. Republicans did the opposite and won.
Blaming the little old grandma whose mail in ballot never arrived, the freshly minted teenager who was told they couldn’t vote on their college campus, and the perennial Dem whose name got purged from the voter rolls - nevermind the million plus voters in DC who have never been enfranchised in the legislature - that they failed to elect a candidate neck deep up Liz Cheney’s asshole because they’re bad people isn’t going to save your party next election any more than it did last time
Your employer doesn’t want you unemployed.
I’ve been through enough layoff cycles not to believe that

5·4 days agoIt would have been nice if everyone showed up to vote too
Democrats dismantled one of the most effective GOTV operations in the Midwest because of an obvious psyop by a college drop out.
That was the beginning of a long and miserable series of defeats at every level of government for the next 18 years.
Gotta wonder what you are supposed to think about a party that won’t fight for the VRA, won’t fight for the courts, won’t fight for DC statehood, and won’t fight for the wildly popular anti-war and pro-health care policies that they campaigned on.
At the very fucking least, Biden could have delivered on a prosecution of the Trump administration, rather than telling his voters that Trump had done nothing illegal.
