I feel the fault is not so much with the outraged people (also partly though), but mostly with the deplorable groups who basically adopted this game as a dogwhistle. I think they knew beforehand people would unwittingly use ‘their’ symbol.

It’s so difficult. Someone who has no clue white supremacists adopted it as a dogwhistle will do this as a joke and get the full fury of the world on them.

An actual white supremacist will do this and use the ‘I didn’t know’ excuse while definitely knowing.

So what should we do? Go deep into this dude’s life to find out if he has any connections to far right groups? Should someone’s privacy be violated because he made a joke?

It’s all super sad and I figure if you’re a professional referee you’ll most likely have a solid moral compass so we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe it’s to do with what a literal dogwhistle is. I can’t really make heads or tails of this, but that’s maybe just because my brain is on a completely different wavelength. Like dogs can hear specific frequencies humans can’t. Maybe trumpists hear certain things in between this word soup that actually makes sense on some level.

Isn’t there a separatist movement that wants to secede from Spain? They have had some violent outbursts. It’s not war, it’s just politically motivated violence. But as we saw in Yugoslavia, it can turn nasty given enough time and hate.

In 2019 there were five days of pretty aggressive protests, which already followed a couple of referendums, declarations of independence, tensions with Madrid… But this has been going on since the 15th century.

I think there’s always unrest somewhere but between the fall of the Wall in 1989 to whenever Yugoslavia started their civil war was peaceful. And after Yugoslavia was disbanded, there hasn’t really been full on war in Serbia/Kosovo. But then there’s also been unrest in Catalunya with separatist movements.

If you consider Scandinavia I think we all recall Breivik’s attack but other than that I think it’s been really peaceful.
