  • I did something similar to a 5th gen camaro. It was much easier. Take out the cell modem unit, open the case, pull out a physical hardware pin bridge that connected it to the OnStar unit. Done.

The only thing I lost was an in-dash compass heading.

The modem was 2g so its dead now anyway, I suppose I could put the bridge back and get the compass. I won’t though, that takes effort and road signs have directions on them. There is always the sun too.

I remember when everyone made fun of getting a sports car or muscle car saying it was a way to compensate for a small dick.

I guess folks who drove jeeps wanted in on that particular segment of being made fun of and went hard into it.

Now those of us who do drive fast things are largely left in peace with our tiny peckers.

  • Ha ha, what?

They’re criminals. They fucked shit up for money and then held the company hostage. If they don’t pay, the ransom group WILL release the data. If they do pay, they might release the data, but they’ll just quietly sell it rather than just dumping it.

They’re a business. It took time and effort to break in. They want to be paid. If you stiff them, they’re going to fuck you in the ear. If they sell your data after the fact, what are you going to do? Complain to the manager?

They’re not professional, they’re extortionists that don’t give two shits if they’re respected. They steal what’s previous and threaten to dump it or sell it back. Their reputation is already shit, why would they care otherwise? This is such a naive take.

  • US President Donald Trump’s futuristic “Golden Dome” missile defence system will cost about $1.2 tn (£882bn) to develop, deploy and operate over two decades, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates.

That figure is significantly higher than the initial sum of $175bn (£129bn) that had been earmarked.

And the system designed to shield the US against ballistic and cruise missiles might not even work. The new CBO report warned the Golden Dome could be vulnerable to a full-scale attack by Russia or China.

Acquisition costs alone would be over $1tn, including for the interceptor layers and a space-based missile warning and tracking system, the fiscal scorekeeper said in a new report.

Just days after returning to the White House in January, Trump unveiled plans for the system, aimed at countering “next-generation” aerial threats.

He said last year that the programme would require an initial investment of $25bn, with a total cost of $175bn over time.

Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, who requested the estimate in the report, said on Tuesday: “The President’s so-called ‘Golden Dome’ is nothing more than a massive giveaway to defense contractors paid for entirely by working Americans.”

The BBC contacted the White House and the Pentagon for comment.

There have been doubts about whether the US would be able to deliver a comprehensive defence system for such a huge land mass.

Officials have warned that existing systems have not kept pace with increasingly sophisticated weapons possessed by potential adversaries.

Despite the projected costs of the Golden Dome, “the system could be overwhelmed by a full-scale attack mounted by a peer or near-peer adversary”, the CBO said.

An executive order calling for the creation of what was initially termed the “Iron Dome for America” noted that the threat of next-generation weapons has “become more intense and complex” over time, a potentially “catastrophic” scenario for the US.

A week into his second term, Trump ordered the defence department to submit plans for a system that would deter and defend against aerial attacks, which the White House said at the time remain “the most catastrophic threat” facing the US.

Trump said the system would consist of “next-generation” technologies across land, sea and space, including space-based sensors and interceptors.

The system would be “capable even of intercepting missiles launched from the other side of the world, or launched from space”, the president said last year.

  • Anger is a composite emotion that is the combination of several emotions, a blend of a brief period of time and social conditioning. It is not pure.

The root of all anger is typically sadness, or fear. It’s been well studied that in the US, boys are taught from an early age to “man up”, “quit being a sissy” and other silly things after they show an emotional response. Boys don’t cry, boys are tough. Showing sadness or fear is a sign of weakness. So boys (and girls also) are taught and the lesson is reinforced when they are made fun of for being sad or fearful. They are also taught that where sadness is weakness, anger is strength. If something bad happens to you, crying is passive, submissive and everyone hates a pussy. When you get angry, you take action, you hit things, break things, hit people, lash out verbally, curse, call them mean things. Now others are scared of you or at least unwilling to engage–this is now control and control is a means to taking power.

Anger is learned, it is taught. It is not an instinct. Anger is not required to respond under duress. In a fight or flight situation, neither require anger. You can be scared and still fight. Anger is just what we are taught by a culture that prizes power and strength to be required in order to fight.

  • That’s the magic of fingerprinting. They don’t need what we would consider are the “real” signals like IP address anymore.

They can create a composite value based on boring stuff like the things you mentioned, plus a few others. They can pull fun stuff like the details of your TLS handshake OS, browser, versions of various plugins/addons, etc. Given 20+ signals they can fingerprint you pretty well. They store it and just profile you, follow you around.

VPNs, privacy addons are just more signals to use to fingerprint you. You stand out even more when you try to hide. It’s been this way for a while now.

Just here to say that Jay Leno is not funny, never was funny. I have no idea why he is so beloved. I’ve watched his standup, it was genuinely awful. Then again, Jimmy Fallon hosts now, so I guess that show just exists to give low-talent comedians a thing to do where they are beyond filthy rich.

Conan is and always will be the better man.
