I wonder how long this will go on.

How do you feel about echo chambers and just talking to people who already agree with you on everything?
No (◠‿◕), let’s learn to embrace our differences and love one another. No need for Lemmy to be just another echo chamber on the web. There’s already enough of those.
That’s good and all unless you’re talking about cancer, you see context is everything.

anyone who doesn’t immediately agree is scary. I get it.

2·1 day agoVery fair point. I still have personal doubts about data on foreign servers. Is there a third party actually verifying they are obeying the law?

8·1 day agoAnything posted to their servers is owned by them. That’s always been the deal. Same with most platforms. Even if you delete your account it’s not like they delete that precious valuable data. You can though request your data to be wiped off some servers, depends on the country.
Tldr: if a service is free you’re the product.
Generally I agree but also I’ve noticed some pretty hardcore things have fostered here as well and if you don’t immediately fully support these dogmatic views then you may as well be Satan incarnate. Naturally it’s tribalistic like all other human endeavors, political, religious, cultural, or otherwise and of course any other platform. It makes sense, most people operate in those mindsets, and actual unconditional compassion is far and few between.
Tldr: we like you so long as you completely agree with our views and anything not in absolute agreement will be downvoted to hell. Even questioning things is bad.
People don’t make the distinction. It simplifies down to AI == bad when the reality before us is more complex than that. More specifically people should stop supporting wasteful uses of AI. Uses that produce benefits for humanity greater than their cost should most definitely be supported.

12·2 days agoYes but you see the same nearly everywhere. Like political videos are typically the mose upvoted in [email protected] nearly anywhere I am there’s a few trends on Lemmy. Very pro LGBTQ, furry friendly, very pro China and very pro socialism.
Of course not every single last location or post but it’s very noticeable across the platform. Not all of that is bad but the nationalism and politics is like religion2.0 aka it’s unquestionable and anything not extremely in agreement is heresy (no matter which group it is). This place would be so much more enjoyable with the extreme nationalism and religiously dogmatic political affiliations turned down a few notches.
I know it’s concentrated on particular servers but by the nature of federation it really doesn’t stay there.

63·2 days agoLemmy would be so much cooler with the politics turned down a few notches. Kinda reminds me of when r/atheism was dethroned as a main sub on Reddit because they were too agro for new users.
I mean it is, just not how it’s being done currently. Meat production isn’t our friend, or rather the way we are producing meat isn’t our friend. Alpha fold is pretty old news but a good demonstration that neural networks can be exceptionally useful in performing worthwhile tasks that are beneficial for humanity even including the costs.
Even the person who linked it is aware of the biased nature of their link. They said so themselves.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is this something I should escalate at my workplace?
41·2 days agoTwo things. Number one, get a different job. Also many job requirements include things not specified. For instance cleaning my workspace isn’t specified in my job description but I’m pretty sure it would be bad manners if I just didn’t and one of my workmates got stuck cleaning my workspace.
Secondly as others have pointed out, it may not be what you’re saying but how you’re saying it. Human psychology plays a huge role in everyday life. Same as the brakes in-between patients situation. Personally I would go to the stairwell or bathroom or something. Out of sight, out of mind. Sitting around in eyeshot of people who are on their feet too much will naturally foster resentment even if it’s legitimate.
Final thing, just out of curiosity who’s job is it? Because it sounds like you and them need a better working relationship and communication with one another to avoid these scenarios all together.
Sounds like an improvement to me.
