What is a meme?

Should have read more, I wasn’t aware that was part of the question. I’m just posting about niche usage apps I like. I don’t use them often, but they’re essential for their niche.
Idk if this counts, but I use the Reminders app on my phone to create packing lists for work travel. Very easy to uncheck everything then re-check off things as you pack them. Keep building a perpetual packing list and you’ll never forget things. Lists in general are awesome for offloading cognitive workload.
RunPee will alert you when there’s a lull in a movie so you can sneak away to take a leak. Includes a plot summary of what you missed while you pissed.
RPM app - I use this for ensuring my turntable is spinning at the correct RPM.
I’ve got a Dolby app on my Mac that I use for encoding or decoding Dolby B/C tape recordings because I’m a cassette nerd. Super niche.
I also enjoy GPS raw data apps for seeing how fast my airplane is going when it takes off.
If I think of any more I’ll post again.

Merlin Bird ID - it’s Shazam for bird calls with a Pokédex for tracking what you’ve discovered.
That’s regurgitation is how they transmit disease. Fuck mosquitoes.

Maybe if you have a bad bank, I’ve checked mine and it’s competitive. April 17 I did a Bandcamp transaction in GBP, charged my Chase card and got <1% difference in USD compared to the mid-market exchange rate on that date. It’s $90.21 on my statement, $89.92 when I calculate it, so +0.3% off the mid-market rate.
If you’re getting anything worse than this, you’ve got a shady bank, and there’s no lack of competition.

It’s not hard to find a bank that only charges a 1% fee on the spot exchange rate. You shouldn’t be using a debit card (“cash in the account”) almost anywhere. Credit is so much better.

How often are you spending >$500 vs <$500 on a single transaction in a foreign currency?

Don’t use a bank that charges $5 for currency conversion. If it’s anything more than an additional 1% it’s a shit bank. Always charge things in the local currency and let your bank do the conversion for +1%. Need cash? Hit a real bank ATM (not a shady kiosk one) with a debit card that refunds ATM fees and withdraw local currency for +1%. Currency conversion any other way is a complete ripoff, aside from ordering money from the bank before you leave.

240V vs 120V. For an equivalent amount of current, 240V supplies twice the amount of power to the heating element.

Robot vacuum. My floors are spotless except for some areas you’d never walk on and I only need to do some spot cleaning every month or two.
Dishwashers are awesome too, watch Technology Connections’ video on YouTube if you think your dishwasher doesn’t do a good job. It’s likely just how you’re using it. Priming the hot water before running, using powder detergent instead of liquid or packs (booo), and using the pre-wash and rinse aid will have even the gnarliest dishes coming out spotless.

“Only the games I care about are good”
What is the ideal amount of biomass for humans? Same question for agricultural land. What’s the ideal amount? I’m torn between thinking this is just how things go or maybe I’m just terribly ignorant. At some point the majority of biomass was dinosaurs or something, so what? That’s the ebb and flow of life. It wasn’t the biomass of dinosaurs that caused their extinction. How do these biomass stats indicate overpopulation?
I can’t disagree with the industrial farming and overall ecosystem points you raise but the biomass bits seem awfully arbitrary.
I’d also say feeding 50% of the world’s population for 2% of the world’s energy seems pretty damn efficient.
