What’s the story with the bean posting? I’m new to the Lemmiverse.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why don't movie ratings just have letters indicating objectionable material?
7·10 days agoIirc this was the one that showed the sexism of the MPAA too, like how a fully visible penis gets rated R (I think American Psycho was the example), but in another film where some of the top of a woman’s pubic hair was showing in a scene, they were going to rate it NC-17 unless they removed it.
Same.

2010·17 days agoI appreciate your posts, Velma. 🫶
From what I’d read about it, search engines have become kinda shit, focusing on SEO and paid sponsored results than actually showing what someone searched for, so some small websites form webrings to help people find similar websites/interests while they’re on their site. I think it’s pretty cute/fun.
The Costco near me used to have one single line for all lanes of self checkout machines, it was great. Then some months ago they switched it to a line per lane and I hate it so much. I think it’s just stupid “perceptions” — people probably just “feel like” it takes longer when it’s one long line, so they’re happy to wait longer in a shorter line because visually “their turn is coming soon.”

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Chevrolet Bolt Dies Next Year After A Disappointing Return
1·24 days agoMy partner decided to take out a loan on his 2023 Chevy Bolt rather than pay in full, with the idea if the new model came out with features he wanted (mainly continued support for Comma self driving) he would do a trade-in. Then we saw the news that the new Chevy Bolt is basically a downgrade in terms of things like not having Android Auto anymore, so he just paid off the loan in full and has no interest in “upgrading.” Chevy shot themselves in the foot; US EV manufacturers need to get their shit together.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Forget what you read online: 94% of EV drivers won't go back to gas
7·2 months agoMy friend got a Telluride EV and she loves it. She has kids and so she’s got lots of stuff to carry around. It’s a huge car; I rode in it once and felt amazed how we’re at a point where even massive SUVs can be powered purely by electricity. She was especially appreciative that she chose the EV option after gas prices spiked due to Trump’s Iran meddling.

That explains perfectly my use of it for my job (where we’re expected to use it anyway). I’d been burnt out at my company for a long time, and LLMs give me the ability to at least still fulfill my feature quotas long after my desire to give a shit about the codebase and software had gone. I am a techmeth addict now. It kinda sucks, but I feel hopeless about tech as a career nowadays and just the future in general, so I don’t even care anymore.
